Senate Announces Progress on Infrastructure Bill

Negotiators reach a deal on “major issues.”

Senators negotiating the bipartisan infrastructure framework of the legislation said Wednesday they reached an agreement on the “major issues” of the bill. The announcement caps weeks of discussions between partisans and the White House that at times appeared on the brink of collapse.

Senator Rob Portman of Ohio, one of the lead negotiators, announced the breakthrough after meeting with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. A vote to advance the measure requires 60 votes, meaning bipartisan support is required. Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the majority leader, said he could call the procedural vote as early as Wednesday evening.

Senator Portman stated, “We look forward to moving ahead and having the opportunity to have a healthy debate here in the chamber.”

The actual text of the legislative agreement has yet to be written.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of the Senate and potential for a procedural vote to proceed on Wednesday evening.
  • For the efforts to improve infrastructure and the building program for the U.S.
  • With thanksgiving that the bipartisan group has been able to work together to structure a bill that may satisfy both sides.
